Outlook: Kirk Franklin returns to coach Oscoda and will have his work cut out for him as the Owls return very little varsity experience. In fact, only five points per game of scoring return to the roster as the Owls transition out of the NEMC to independent status.
“We're very inexperienced,” Franklin says. “Finding an identity is going to be the big thing. Most of these guys didn't play a lot last year, and I wasn't with them either. So it could take awhile to feel out the team and what we need to do to strive for wins.”
Five seniors do return, but only a couple of them saw a much floor time. Justin Cain (2.4 points / game) and Tom Schonfeld saw the most action. Michael Wimmer, Dylan Kachur and Brad Niemann also return. All but Niemann are guards. In fact, nine of the 14 Owls on the varsity roster are guards.
“We're not a tall team,” Franklin says. “There's no one kid we'll rely on; we probably go six deep there. They're all very, very equal.
“There's a lot of question marks. We're starting a sophomore and a couple of juniors. But we've got some kids who can play.” |
