STANDISH-STERLING - Jan. 26, 2010 - Bay City Central provided Standish-Sterling with a sterner test Tuesday than the Wolves did in the two teams' first meeting, staying withing four points of the Panthers until SSC put the game away with a late surge to win 62-52.
The Panthers scored 11 of their 13 points at the free throw line in the fourth quarter after BCC crept to within four points. Standish-Sterling led for most of the contest, including 33-29 at the half and 49-42 after three quarters.
In December, SSC put the game away early with a 17-0 first quarter. But this time around, the Wolves took a 14-11 lead to open the game before Abbye Gulvas lit up the scoreboard with 12 second quarter points to give the Panthers the lead.
Gulvas finished with 24 points -- including 11-of-13 at the free throw line -- to lead the Panthers (11-2), with Allison Collier adding 10 points and Kierstin Sanch and Christina Proulx adding eight points apiece.
Virginia Fisher had 16 for BCC (1-11), with Whitley Henry adding 14. |
