OSCODA - Feb. 1, 2010 - Fairview put four girls into double figures Monday, accounting for all the Eagles' scoring as they defeated Oscoda 54-37.
Oscoda coach Chris Manick said a slow start kept his team from staying in the game early despite one of the Owls' better efforts of the season.
"It was just a tough game for us to get going," he said. "We were flat and just did not come ready to meet Fairview's intensity."
Fairview led 26-15 at halftime and pulled away in the third quarter.
"(Camille) Szubelak and (Kayla) Weaver just out-hustled and out-played us," Manick said.
Weaver finished with a game-high 21 points and 19 rebounds, while Szubelak had 10 points and six rebounds for the Eagles (9-5). Jaelynn Handrich added 12 points and Kendra Handrich had 11.
"I am proud of my girls," Manick said. "They did not stop playing and in the fourth quarter Fairview had to bring their starters back in because we pulled within 10 late.
"(They) never quit. That is the fire I would like them to take into their games next week with Tawas and Alcona. We are a young and inexperienced team, but we fight and play to the end."
Megan Zarachowicz led the Owls (3-12) with nine points, with Kaylee Charters and Ashley Scott adding eight apiece. |
