ST. IGNACE - Mar. 9, 2010 - Posen made a bit of a run on Pickford early in the second quarter of Tuesday's Class D regional semifinal at St. Ignace.
But after erasing most of an 11-point deficit to pull to within two, the Vikings were victimized by a big Pickford run to end the first half. Trailing 46-23 at the break, Posen eventually went down to a 66-51 defeat.
"We scored six straight points at one point and were only down 21-19," said Posen interim head coach Kevin Romel. "Early on when the pressed us we were getting down the floor against it, but missing our shots.
"The second time they pressed us, we turned it over four or five times in a row and they scored every time."
Pickford scored 13 straight points to take control end ended the half on a 25-4 run.
"At halftime I told the girls we could roll over and lose by 50, or we could battle and see what we could do," Romel said. "We outscored them 27-20 in the second half. I was real happy with the way we responded."
The Vikings were hurt by a hamstring injury suffered in practice by Lindsay Bartz, which limited her to the opening minutes of play.
"She would have helped against the press," Romel said. "She tried to play, but she just couldn't get up and down the court."
Korynn Hincka led the Vikings (15-8) with 16 points, with Janice Ciarkowski adding eight and Anna Couture adding seven points.
