STATS

BAY CITY ALL SAINTS - Mar. 3, 2010 - Arenac Eastern led from start to finish in picking up a Class D district semifinal victory against AuGres-Sims on Wednesday , 53-30.

The Wolverines tried to slow the game down, but with AE building a 7-1 lead in the first quarter weren't able to stick with that strategy for long.

"The week off didn't help us any," said AE coach Butch Beckham. "Nine days off without playing didn't pay any dividends. We only shot 26 percent, which is awful.

"But it was good enough to get us a win. We have 20 wins now, and we're really happy about that."

The Eagles led 21-10 at halftime and held AGS to just four baskets in the second half. The Wolverines did hit 12-of-14 free throws in the second half.

AE had a balanced scoring attack, with Ashley Navarre scoring 13, Danielle Jurek and Chelsea Dery adding nine apiece, and Maddie Nelson and Briana Dery chipping in with eight each. Chelsea Dery had nine rebounds, while Briana Dery had eight rebounds and four steals and Danielle Jurek had seven assists.

Ashli Maser scored 10 and Emily Lutz added nine for the Wolverines, who finished at 6-15.

AE (20-1) takes on Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary (12-9 against a schedule of mostly Class B and C schools) in Friday's title contest at All Saints.

"That's going to be a tough game," Beckham said. "They're a good team that has played a lot of good teams. I'm glad we didn't open with them after having a week off, but I think we'll be ready."
