OSCODA - Jan. 27, 2010 - Standish-Sterling's boys basketball team needed a lift with center Cole Walderzak missing Wednesday's game at Oscoda with the flu.
The Panthers got that lift from JV call-up Jonah Hinkley, who scored nine points in SSC's 25-point second quarter that was the key to a 67-56 victory over the Owls.
Oscoda trailed 17-16 after one quarter, but SSC's second quarter explosion boosted its lead to 42-29 at the half.
The Panthers held on despite sending the Owls to the line 15 times in the fourth quarter. SSC hit 18-of-22 at the line for the game, while Oscoda was 15-of-22 including 13-of-15 in the fourth quarter as the Owls tried to get back in the game.
Brandon and Kyle McCausey each scored 18 points to lead the Owls (2-8). Ryan Whitman led the Panthers (7-4) with 12 points, HInkley finished with 11 and Bobby Sanch had 10. |
