HILLMAN - Feb. 2, 2010 - Hillman's boys basketball team battled back from an eight-point halftime deficit, then had to hold on in the final seconds for a 49-47 victory over Rogers City on Tuesday.
The Tigers struggled to contain Rogers City's Eric Maharg, who scored 26 points and led the Hurons to a 31-23 lead at the break.
But in the second half, Hillman held Rogers City to just 16 points. The Tigers also got to the line, hitting 13-of-16 free throws in the second half, including 6-of-8 by Devon Shumaker in the fourth quarter as Hillman held onto a narrow lead.
Jonathan Robinson blocked Maharg's potential game-tying shot in the final seconds to preserve the win.
Shoemaker led Hillman (11-1) with 22 points, with Robinson adding 10.
