AuGRES-SIMS - Jan. 29, 2010 - Hale may have had a relatively easy time with AuGres-SIms in the teams' first meeting this season.
That wasn't the case Friday night as the Wolverines took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter before Hale pulled away in the final minutes.
"It was a very physical game," said Hale coach Ryan Parkinson, pointing out that the two teams combined for just 12 free throws. "You know they let them play.
"AuGres came out in the third quarter with great energy and really took it to us."
Hale led 25-19 at the half, but the Wolverines went on a 16-9 run in the third quarter, fueled by a pair of Connor Pendred 3-pointers, to take a 35-34 lead.
Hale held the Wolverines to just one basket and two free throws in the fourth quarter while scoring 13 points to claim the victory.
"I was glad to see us respond and dig back out," Parkinson said. "But we really have to be aggressive and work all night.
"We really have to be a better road team than we were this week. Both Mio and AuGres really brought it at us and it took us too long to respond. Give AuGres credit: they played a strong game."
Kendall Rollins and Travis Byard each scored nine points for AGS, with Pendred adding eight.
Christian Moody paced the Eagles with 13 points and seven rebounds. Christian Mudry added 11 points and Ben Katterman had 10 points with seven rebounds.
