AuGRES-SIMS - Feb. 1, 2010 - Take away AuGres-Sims' 3-point shots, and Monday's non-league contest would have been a lot closer.
But if the Wolverines shot every game the way they did against the Owls, in the words of coach Gordie Ostrander, "We probably wouldn't have lost a game."
The Wolverines hit 11-of-19 shots from 3-point range, including nine in the second half, to key a 62-36 victory over Oscoda.
The game stayed close for most of the first half even though AGS held Oscoda without a point in the first quarter. The Wolverines only led 11-0 when the Owls' Kyle McCausey finally got his team on the board with two free throws early in the second quarter. But moments later Oscoda was very much back in the game at 11-6.
The Wolverines opened up a 23-11 halftime lead by scoring the final seven points of the first half. Kendall Rollins and Connor Pendred then combined for three 3-pointers open the third quarter as AGS put the game out of reach at 32-11.
Rollins, Pendred and Colton Liddell combined to go 10-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Wolverines shot 23-of-45 (.511) for the game and hit all five free throws they attempted.
"We got the same shots last week against Hale and Posen, but we weren't hitting them," Ostrander said. "We're making progress, but we need to be a little more consistent."
Pendred led the Wolverines (6-7) with 18 points, with Rollins adding 17 points and 10 rebounds and Liddell adding 11 points.
Kyle McCausey had 13 points and Brandon McCausey added nine for the Owls (2-9). |
