ATLANTA - Feb. 26, 2010 - Arenac Eastern held Atlanta to single-digit scoring in three of four quarters Friday as AE won its final North Star League game of the season 49-34.
The Eagles took a 19-4 lead after one quarter, but it wasn't until they held the Huskies to two points in the fourth that they put the game away. Atlanta pulled to within 29-23 at halftime and still trailed by just seven heading to the fourth quarter.
"We played two good quarters -- the first and last," said AE coach Bob Morgan.
"Our guards really stepped up in the second half. It was Atlanta's homecoming and they really wanted to win. They played with a lot of intensity."
Graham Morgan had 12 points and 20 rebounds, and Terry Gerard and Kevin Kovacs had key baskets in the second half with Atlanta still threatening.
"It was nice to win on the road," Morgan said. "If we can pull off wins against Akron and Owen-Gage then we could finis the regular season at .500. It would be great to have some momentum heading into districts."
AE improved to 8-10 (6-8 NSL). Nick Gross led Atlanta (0-18, 0-14) with 11 points. |
