MIO AuSABLE - Mar. 2, 2010 - Alcona coach Seth Coffing was hoping his team would pick up some momentum heading into next week's district tournament. With Tuesday's 50-48 victory at Mio, the Tigers may finally be hitting their stride.

"It wasn't pretty, it was good to be in a close game and win it," Coffing said. "We haven’t been a part of too many close games and we certainly haven’t came out on top in many."

The Tigers held on after leading 33-29 heading to the fourth quarter. Recent JV call-up Bryan Layton scored seven of his nine points down the stretch to off set Mio's three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

"We had some kids step up and make some plays when we really needed to finish it off," Coffing said.

Alex Cole finished with 16 points to lead Alcona (6-13), with Layton and Matt Mullen adding nine apiece. Mullen also had nine rebounds.

K.C. Fox led Mio (7-12) with 19 and Micah Thomey added eight.
