ROGERS CITY - Mar. 10, 2010 - Alcona's post-season came to a close Wednesday as the Tigers dropped a 73-59 Class C district semifinal decision at Rogers City.

Rogers City built a 37-19 halftime lead and wasn't threatened in the second half. The Hurons' pressure defense forced many of Alcona's 29 turnovers, ruining the Tigers' chance to advance to Friday's district title contest.

"Rogers City outplayed us in every aspect of the game," said Alcona coach Seth Coffing. "We handled their press poorly and that resulted in a lot of layups for them.

"Matt Mullen was unable to play (due to an injury suffered during Monday's game) and that definitely hurt us."

Eric Meharg led Rogers City with 16 points, Chris Vogelheim added 15 and Jordan Bellmore tallied 14.

Alex Cole had 23 points and Brock Lavergne added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers (8-14).

"I'm proud of the way our guys played the last part of the year," Coffing said. "They could have mailed it in about midway through the year but they kept working and finished strong, winning five of our last seven games.

"The experience that some of these young guys had this year will be valuable for the future. I look for big things the next couple of years."
