OSCODA - Dec. 5, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights ran up a 16-4 lead after one quarter and went on to defeat Oscoda 66-27 on Friday in an early-season non-conference girls basketball contest.

The Falcons had eight players score in their first quarter run and eventually saw all 10 of their players score against their former NEMC rivals.

"We played well tonight," said Ogemaw Heights coach Tim Hansen. "We had the advantage of having played a game Tuesday. Oscoda's game Monday was cancelled, and that was to our benefit."

Ashley Thompson led the Falcons (1-1) with 13 points, with Josie Wiltse and Molly Keetch adding eight apiece.

"We played well in the first quarter but got a little complacent to start the second," Hansen said. "We had to take a time-out to get 'refocused.' The team responded well and played a good all-around game the rest of the way."

Heather Patterson and Rebecka Brewer each scored eight points for the Owls (0-1), who trailed 32-12 at the half.

Ogemaw Heights travels to Pinconning on Dec. 12 to open NEMC play. Oscoda, now an independent, hosts AuGres-Sims in a make-up game on Monday, Dec. 8.
