HOUGHTON LAKE - Feb. 10, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights' girls basketball team could check off several accomplishments after Tuesday's 61-34 victory at Houghton Lake.
The Falcons picked up a big win on the floor of next month's district tournament host, defeated the Jack Pine Conference leader for the second time this season and -- most importantly -- won their eighth straight contest to move to 12-3 on the season.
"It was nice to have a good all-around game on that floor," said Ogemaw Heights coach Tim Hansen. "It was also interesting seeing how we matched up with the Jack Pine champs."
The Falcons jumped to a 14-7 first quarter lead and were ahead 31-22 at the half.
"We ran into a little patch in the second quarter where we missed some rotations defensively and gave up a few easy baskets," Hansen said. "But a lot of that credit goes to Houghton lake and some of the adjustments they made.
"We talked about some fixes at halftime and did a nice job in the second half."
The Falcons clamped down defensively and outscored the Bobcats 30-12 in the second half.
Ashley Thompson scored 22 points, with Rilee Palm adding 11 and Kristi Killackey 10 for the Falcons.
Molly Collins scored 12 points for the Bobcats (11-5). |
