OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Feb. 6, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights led nearly from start to finish Friday as the Falcon girls basketball team defeated John Glenn for the second time in four days, 56-39.

The Falcons won 55-45 at Glenn on Monday, and whether it was intended or not, the Bobcats provided some bulletin board material that didn't hurt Ogemaw's preparation for the second go-around.

"We had read the article in The Bay City Times after Monday's game and wanted to put a few things to rest," said Ogemaw Heights coach Tim Hansen. "We played a nice game from start to finish."

Glenn (7-7, 2-4 NEMC) focused its defensive efforts on slowing down the Falcons' Ashley Thompson. As other teams have discovered this season, that doesn't necessarily work. Thompson scored just 11 points -- eight fewer than Monday -- but that opened up the inside for Rilee Palm, who matched a season-high with 16.

The Falcons limited Glenn's Lauren Bluhm to just six points in the first three quarters and 10 for the game.

The win, Ogemaw's seventh straight, guarantees the Falcons (11-3) a winning record for the first time since the 2000 season, when they finished third in what was an eight-team North East Michigan Conference with a 9-5 mark. At 6-1 they have also clinched a winning league mark and currently trail only Tawas Area (6-0).

The Falcons host Standish-Sterling on Friday, Feb. 13.
