WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Jan. 23, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights ran out to a 24-10 first quarter lead on Friday and held on to sole possession of second place in the NEMC with a 66-25 defeat of Whittemore-Prescott.

With only one exception, every Falcon played in all four quarters and all 10 Ogemaw players scored.

"It was exam week with no school on Friday, so there's always the uncertainty of how we were going to play," said Ogemaw coach Tim Hansen. "Especially after W-P won the tip and came down and hit a three pointer to start the game. 

"We responded well and played a nice overall team game."

Ashley Tanner and Cortney Bork each hit 3-pointers in the first quarter for the Cardinals, but it wasn't enough to keep the Falcons from running out to a 44-15 halftime lead.

"We got all 10 players a lot of playing time," Hansen said. "All three officials said after the game that they appreciated the way we kept sending in substitutions all game long.  We've got a really big test on Tuesday with Gaylord coming to town, so we tried a few new things."

Ashley Thompson scored 16 points to lead the Falcons (6-3, 3-1 NEMC), including nine in the opening quarter, with Kate Morrell adding 13 and Josie Wiltse a season-high 12.

Cory Durham had 12 points and 12 rebounds for W-P (1-9, 0-3) with Tanner adding seven.
