OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Jan. 20, 2009 - The Ogemaw Heights girls basketball team had a bad taste in its mouth after losing to Tawas Area last Friday.
The Falcons' 72-36 victory over Beaverton on Tuesday went a long way toward washing that bad taste out.
Ogemaw coach Tim Hansen said the Tawas loss was akin to tongue-testing a 9-volt battery.
"You stick it on your tongue to test it only to find out it was brand new," Hansen said. "First it zaps you pretty good, then it leaves a nasty taste in your mouth and belly.
"We were eager to get back on the court and get rid of that feeling."
The Falcons scored the first 19 points of the contest, led 20-4 after one quarter and 39-15 at the half. Ashley Thompson had 14 points in the first quarter alone and 20 by halftime, while Kristi Killackey added 14 points in the first half.
Nine of the 10 Falcons scored, and Hansen had the entire team in the game before the first quarter was done.
"Everyone played all four quarters, so it was a true team effort," he said. "Beaverton is in our district, so it also gave us a look at a potential playoff opponent."
Thompson finished with 24 points, Killackey had 20 and Josie Wiltse added nine.
The Falcons (5-3) return to NEMC action on Friday at Whittemore-Prescott. |
