OSCODA - Feb. 14, 2009 - Tawas Area's boys basketball team celebrated Valentine's day with a 66-42 victory over rival Oscoda, breaking open a game in the second quarter for the second straight night.

Just 24 hours after a 22-6 second quarter put Tawas in control of its game at Whittemore-Prescott, the Braves led 12-7 after the first period. The Braves went on a 28-12 splurge in the second quarter on Saturday, getting 12 points from Jesse Siwek and eight from Jeff Janis during the run.

Tom Schonfeld's six third quarter points helped the Owls keep the 40-19 deficit from getting any wider, but Oscoda was also unable to cut into the big Tawas lead.

Chris Dehmel led the Owls (3-12) with 15 points, with Zach Shelton adding nine and Schonfeld eight.

Siwek finished with 17 and Janis with 11 for the Braves (9-5).
