Class C District at Oscoda: Hale 54, Oscoda 19
STATS

OSCODA - Mar. 11, 2009 - It didn't take Hale's boys basketball team long to assuage coach Ryan Parkinson's fears that it might suffer a letdown after Monday's domination of Inland Lakes.

The Eagles took care of business at Oscoda in Wednesday's Class C district semifinal, rolling to a 32-9 halftime lead and eliminating the Owls from post-season play 54-19.

Not only does it earn a district championship game berth for the Eagles, but they will be playing in a district final on their home floor for the first time since 1984.

"This was a good win for us," Parkinson said. "We struggled with Oscoda the last time we played them and we were coming off the long trip to Inland Lakes, so it was nice to see us bring the energy from the start."

The Eagles hit five 3-pointers in the first half, including four from Tanner Shellenbarger. Shellenbarger finished with a game-high 17 points, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Drew Compau and Christian Mudry each added eight points, with Mudry pulling down 14 rebounds and Nick Katterman scoring seven points with 12 rebounds.

"Oscoda had some guys out with injuries," Parkinson said. "that really hurt them (but) I thought they played hard all night."

Justin Cain led the Owls (3-18) with six points, with Chris Dehmel adding five.

Hale (22-1) takes on Rogers City (8-14), which defeated Whittemore-Prescott 67-38 on Wednesday, in Friday's 7 p.m. championship game.
