AuGres-Sims' A.J. Baker completed a rare feat, competing the 400, 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs, winning three. Tawas Area's Reuben Baker (no relation) foiled his bid for a sweep with a victory in the 400.

WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - May 1, 2009 - McBain rambled into Whittemore-Prescott on Friday and used its depth to take a 44-point win at the Cardinals boys' track and field invitational.

McBain scored 142 points to top host W-P (98), Tawas Area (91), AuGres-Sims (67), Pinconning (49), Alcona (39.5), Hale (28) and Oscoda (8).

McBain actually won just four events, including two relays. The Ramblers' Brandon Westmaas won the pole vault (11-0) and Jordan Smith won the 300 hurdles (43.71).

Three individual performances stood out on the afternoon as Tawas Area's Jeff Janis won four events while Whittemore-Prescott's Billy Raushi and AuGres-Sims' A.J. Baker each won three and took second in another.

Janis won the long jump (21-1) by two inches over Raushi (20-11), won the 100 (11.14), 200 (22.76) and anchored the 4x400 relay with Reuben Baker, Jesse Siwek and Eric Wilk (3:40.85).

Raushi's wins came in the high jump (6-6), 110 hurdles (15.62) and the 4x200 relay (1:35.05).

Baker competed in the four distance and middle-distance events, winning the 1600 (4:49.58), 800 (2:06.28) and 3200 (10:57.74) while taking second in the 400 (54.97) to Tawas Area's Reuben Baker (54.25).

Pinconning's Mike Grusnick also capped a remarkable week-long recovery, finishing second in the 300 hurdles (43.89) just seven days after leaving a meet at Mio in an ambulance after a horrific fall in the 110 high hurdles.

Other winners included AuGres-Sims' Nate Jennings in the discus (117-6); Pinconning's James Hutchens in the shot put (42-2.5).

Other top finishers for W-P were Casey Popielarz in the pole vault (3rd, 9-0); the 4x100 relay (2nd, 46.11); Cody Foreman in the 100 (2nd, 11.55) and 200 (2nd, 23.38); and Matt Ackerman in the 200 (3rd, 22.64).

For Tawas Area, other top finishers included Kyle Knapp in the discus (2nd, 115-2); Jesse Siwek in the long jump (3rd, 18-7); and Alex Revord, Jeremy Fuller, Siwek and Reuben Baker in the 4x100 (3rd, 48.02).

For AuGres-Sims, Nathan Trapp took third in the 300 hurdles (44.63).

Pinconning's other top finishers were Alex Bray, Drew Hoder, Derrek Lucynski and Mason Vandenboom in the 4x800 (9:23.81).

Alcona was led by Brad Cecil in the discus (3rd, 114-0); Wesley Richards, Matt Mullen, Taylor Kauffman and Chris Stewart in the 4x800 (2nd, 9:03.72); Stewart in the 400 (3rd, 55.29); Richards in the 800 (2nd, 2:14.04); and Richards, Mullen, Kauffman and Stewart in the 4x400 (2nd, 3:45.77).

Hale's top finishers were Aaron Trevarrow in the pole vault (2nd, 10-6); Nathan Turland in the 300 hurdles (3rd, 17.56); and the 4x200 relay team of Turland, Nick Katterman, Devin Leidecker and Trevarrow (3rd, 1:43.19).

Oscoda was led by Derek Boson in the 100 (3rd, 11.58) and 200 (5th, 24.04).
