It's only April, but Ogemaw Heights' Kalena Franklin has already started her assault on the Falcons' record book, breaking a 32-year-old mark in the long jump with a leap of 17-3.5 at Friday's Falcon Team Invitational.

OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Apr. 24, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights finished fourth in the large school division of the Falcon Team Invitational on Friday, but in the process got a huge performance out of junior jumper / sprinter Kalena Franklin, who broke a 32-year old school record on the way to winning four events.

Gaylord won the team event with 606.5 points, followed by Cadillac (562.5), Gladwin (484), Ogemaw Heights (397), Standish-Sterling (305) and John Glenn (150).

Of the five events the Falcons won, Franklin was responsible at least in part for four of them. Most notable was her performance in the long jump, where her leap of 17-3.5 broke the mark set by Cathy Ehinger in 1977, won of the oldest marks on the Ogemaw record board.

Franklin also won the 100 hurdles (15.91) and 200 (26.94) and teamed with Kristian Franklin, Madison Clark and Kristeen Soper to win the 4x100 relay (52.44).

"Kalena had a very nice meet, with three individual firsts and the relay," said Ogemaw Heights girls coach Rick Frank. "Being ... only April and we haven't had a lot of great practice weather, I still hope for improvements in not only the long jump but also her new event for the year (the hurdles) and the 400 dash."

The Falcons also got a win from Lauren Steinhurst in the discus (115-9).

Other high finishes for the Falcons included Kristeen Soper in the high jump (2nd, 4-10) and 200 (4th, 28.52); and Kristian Franklin in the 100 (13.85) and 300 hurdles (51.40).

Standish-Sterling's winners were Chesea Szostak in the 100 (13.70) and the 300 hurdles (50.14); and Szostak, Jennifer Lentz, Jessica Cousins and Katie Ouillette in the 4x200 relay (1:53.66). Ouillette also finished second in the 400 (1:02.79); and Lentz was third in the 300 hurdles (51.09).
