GLADWIN - May 19, 2009 - The Oscoda Lady Owls soccer team ended their regular season on a very sour note Wednesday evening, falling to the Gladwin Flying G's, 4-0.

The Owls offense fell silent on Wednesday as they only managed one shot on goal, early in the first half, from 40 yards out.  The Owl defense was under constant attack and the score could have been higher with out their strong play.  Kelli Lehman and Nicole Jackson split time between the posts during the match.  Lehman surrendered 1 goal and made 7 saves.  Jackson gave up 3 goals and stopped 14.

Katia Kotula led the defense with 10 intercepts and 5 steals.  Forward Chelsea Carraway did her best to help and finished with 3 steals and 2 intercepts.

"Having only three subs on the bench really bit us tonight," said assistant coach Tim Colborn. "Several of the girls were hurting and having off nights but there wasn't really anything to do. Once again we started a match extremely flat and the girls never did shake it off.  Hopefully they can find their fire again before Tuesday night."

Gladwin took a 2-0 halftime lead with goals by Marina Coats and Melanie Smalley at the 8th and 38th minutes.  Smalley scored again just 2 minutes into the second half.  Goalkeeper Ashley Ford was relieved for a short time and was able to score in the 57th minute before returning to her normal duties.

The Owls ended the regular season at 8-9 and open district tournament play against the Grayling Vikings on Tuesday, May 26th at 5:00pm in Oscoda.  The winner of that match will face Kalkaska at 7:00pm in Oscoda.
