GAYLORD -
May 8, 2009 - For the third time this week one team has scored in the first minute of the soccer game.
Unfortunately for the Oscoda Lady Owls Friday night, it was not them. Their foe, the Gaylord Blue Devils, scored with just 36 seconds gone in the match. They did not look back from there, blanking the Owls, 4-0.
Oscoda (5-7) never even took a shot on goal in the second half and the defense and goalkeeper Nicole Jackson was under constant attack. Jackson made 20 saves in the match.
Senior defensive standout, Katia Kotula had 8 steals and 12 intercepts but it just was not enough. Katy Peacock finished with 9 intercepts and 2 steals. Krystin Inman and Melissa Yang each had 6 intercepts.
"After a lackluster first half, we picked up in the second half", according to Oscoda Head Coach Gary Schneider. "Our midfield needs to step up more and take control of the game for us."
Sophomore Ashley Suszek agreed, "If we had worked a little harder we could have pulled off a win tonight."
