CEDAR SPRINGS - June 5, 2009 - East Grand Rapids' Betsy Ronda scored late in the second overtime period to propel the Pioneers to a 2-1 regional championship victory over John Glenn on Friday.

The Bobcats led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Emily Kraska off a corner kick. Alicia MacMillan had the assist.

East Grand Rapids tied the score early in the second half on a goal by Christina Canepa.

The teams played through the first 15-minute score-and-win overtime and 12 minutes of the second and final extra period before EGR scored the game-winner. Had the teams remained tied for another three min tues, the match would have been decided in a penalty kick shootout.

Kelly Johnson had nine saves for the Bobcats, who finished their best-ever season at 22-4-1, setting a Bay County record for wins and winning the county's first district title.

East Grand Rapids (19-5) plays Chelsea at Grand Rapids Christian on Wednesday in a state semifinal contest.
