BEAVERTON - May 19, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights wrapped up a brutal stretch of 13 baseball games in seven days on Tuesday with a 15-5 and 11-9 sweep at Beaverton.
The Falcons, running short on pitching, called up Chris Hebert from the JV squad to pitch the opener, and he responded with a five-inning complete game. Hebert allowed five runs -- three in the final inning -- on eight hits and two walks while striking out six.
"He pitched great," said Falcon coach Jeremiah Peace of Hebert.
The Falcons gave Hebert a boost by scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning and added two runs in each of the next four frames.
Blaine Powley, Alex Jennings, Jarritt Orlando and Daichi Itabashi each had two hits, with Jennings adding three RBIs. Itabashi, Chris Bones and Andrew Funsch each had two RBIs and Michael Horn added a triple.
The Falcons came from behind two win the nightcap, scoring four in the top of the seventh to overcome an 8-7 deficit.
Bones led off the seventh with a single and eventually scored on a passed ball. Orlando reached base on an error and Charlie Murdock and Nathan Noffsinger added RBI singles to give the Falcons the margin they needed to hold off the Beavers in the bottom of the seventh.
Jason Middleton earned the win with four innings of two-hit pitching, allowing one earned run in relief of starter Kyle Scott. Blaine Powley came on in the seventh to pick up the save.
Noffsinger had three hits and two RBIs while Funsch, Wangler, Bones, Murdock and Glenn Watchorn each had two hits as the Falcons moved back to .500 (15-15).
