OGEMAW HEIGHTS - May 18, 2009 - Tawas Area's baseball team surprised Ogemaw Heights 10-9 in the opener of an NEMC doubleheader on Monday, with the Falcons coming back to take an 11-3 victory in the second game.
Tawas took a 5-0 lead in the opener and held on as the Falcons stormed back with home runs by Jake Wangler and Jarritt Orlando.
Ogemaw put the tying run on base and Orlando gave the Braves a scare with a deep fly-out to center to end the game.
The Falcons took the suspense out of the second game right away with a seven-run first inning.
Blaine Powley was the winning pitcher for Tawas, allowing two earned runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Chris Bones had three hits and scored twice; Andrew Funsch had two hits and three RBIs; and Orlando added two hits and two RBIs. Funsch and Bones each had doubles.
The Falcons finished their NEMC slate with a 5-5 mark, good for third place, while Tawas was 3-7 (fifth).
