BAY CITY ALL SAINTS - May 11, 2009 -
Ogemaw Heights began its late-season gauntlet run of tough non-conference games Monday with a pair of losses at Bay City All Saints on Monday, 2-1 and 10-5.
Errors proved costly in both games -- by their untimeliness in the opener and by their quantity (six) in the nightcap.
"Our pitching was good enough to win," said Ogemaw coach Jeremiah Peace. "But right now we're just not putting it all together. Some costly mistakes in the late innings of Game 1 as well, giving up the go-ahead run and then running ourselves out of the inning in the seventh.
"When they had their chances, they took advantage. We didn't take advantage of ours."
Glenn Watchorn pitched the first five innings of the opener, allowing one earned run on six hits, walking two and striking out two.
Chris Bones had two hits, while Alex Jennings had a double and scored on Nathan Noffsinger's RBI single in the second inning.
The Falcons found themselves in 4-0 hole in the first inning of the second game, but fought back to tie it up at 4-4 in the third inning. All Saints used a four-run fifth and two-run sixth to put the game away.
Earl Bennett took the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks in 4-1/3 innings. Dalton Worthy pitched the final 1-2/3 innings and gave up two unearned runs.
Bennett, Jake Wangler, Michael Horn and Jarritt Orlando each had two hits for the Falcons.
