BAY CITY ALL SAINTS- June 6, 2009 - Hale has been to three Division 4 regional tournaments this decade.
The first two saw the Eagles coming home early after mercy-rule losses, including an 11-0 no-hit loss in 2008.
Saturday the Eagles played like a team that belonged there, falling 6-2 to the Ubly Bearcats.
Hale trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh inning.
The contest featured a pitchers' duel between Ubly's Jordan Kaufman and Hale's Brandon Shellenbarger.
Kaufman earned the win by allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out 13 without walking a batter. Kaufman, got stronger as the game went on, striking out nine of the last 10 batters he faced,
Shellenbarger allowed eight hits and four walks while walking 10, with three hits coming in the seventh.
Ubly took a 1-0 lead in the first. Hale had a chance to tie it after Drew Compau singled, but he was thrown out at home trying to score on Shellenbarger's base hit.
The Eagles finally tied it in the fourth when Cody Allen's RBI single scored Compau.
Ubly added two in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Steven Weber and Dalton O'Connor.
Christian Moody's RBI single scored Brandon Wright to make it 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, but from then on Kaufman put the lights out on the Eagles.
Ubly saw its own season come to an end with an 8-0 loss to Bay City All Saints in the regional title game.
Hale finished its season with a 17-6 mark.
