ROGERS CITY - Oct. 17, 2009 - Whittemore-Prescott advanced out of pool play at Saturday's Rogers City Invitational before bowing out in the first round of elimination play, winning two of the five matches on the day.

The Cardinals defeated Alanson 21-17, 21-8; lost to Engadine 12-21, 18-21; lost to Rogers City 15-21, 17-21; and defeated Alcona 24-22, 21-9 in pool play, then fell to Pellston 12-21, 12-21 in the elimination bracket.

"We fell totally flat against a talented Pellston team in the quarterfinals," said W-P coach Helen Loomis. "We definitely didn't show our best play. I believe the two-hour drive and cold gym were factors. Serving errors didn't help us either.

"It was a plus, however, to see some other teams."

Leading the Cards (15-9-1) were Jordan Maxwell with five aces and 63 assists; Kayla Camp with five aces; Chelsea Jasman with 32 digs and two blocks; and Leighanna Loomis with 20 kills.
