WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Oct. 10, 2009 - Whittemore-Prescott made the best of its home tournament Saturday, sweeping through six matches to win the tournament title.

The Cards topped Arenac Eastern 25016, 25-13; Skeels Christian 25-18, 25-11; Hale 25-18, 25-22; Oscoda 25-13, 23-25, 15-7; and Standish-Sterling 25-16, 25-19.

"The girls played consistently well today," said W-P coach Helen Loomis. "It was fun and exciting to see them play with focus and confidence.

"Our hitters were all on and our defense showed a lot of hustle and accuracy reading the tips. All team members should feel proud of their play and support."

Leading the Cardinals (12-6-1) were CHelsea Jasman with nine aces and 40 digs; Staci Ostrander with 12 blocks; Jordan Maxwell with 108 assists; and Leighanna Loomis with 36 spike kills.

W-P travels to Standish-Sterling for an NEMC match on Wednesday.
