WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Oct. 8, 2009 - Tawas Area maintained its two-game lead atop the North East Michigan Conference by defeating Whittemore-Prescott on Wednesday, 25-14, 25-18, 25-17.

W-P coach Helen Loomis had hoped the Cardinals would put up a better fight against the league-leading Braves but said that Tawas' net game prevented that from happening.

"(It was) a disappointing night," Loomis said. "We couldn't seem to get a run going.

"Tawas blocked and attacked well and took us out of our offense. We did have some moments of great play, but the consistency wasn't there."

The Cards (6-6-1, 2-5 NEMC) were led by Jordan Maxwell with seven assists, Leighanna Loomis with 17 digs and Chelsea Jasman with four kills.

Tawas improved to 11-12-2 (7-0 NEMC).
