TAWAS AREA - Aug. 26, 2009 - Tawas Area won the first two games in Wednesday's NEMC volleyball opener against Standish-Sterling, then had to hang as the Panthers pushed the Braves to the brink. The Braves held on for a 25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 15-10 victory.
"We came out pretty week and quiet during the first two sets and had poor offense," said SSC coach Becky Murphy. "During the last three sets we were mentally tough and stuck together, picking up our offense."
Jessica Fenner had 24 attacks, Emily Meschke had 23 assists and Brooke Bartlett had 56 assists for the Panthers.
Tawas (1-0 NEMC) travels to Cadillac for a tournament on Thursday, while SSC (1-5, 0-1 NEMC) hosts Ogemaw Heights on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
