STANDISH-STERLING - Oct. 29, 2009 - Standish-Sterling turned one of its strongest volleyball outings of the year Thursday, pushing NEMC runner-up John Glenn to five games before the Bobcats rallied to claim a 25-21, 19-25, 26-24, 14-25, 15-13 victory over the Panthers.

"We played very well," said SSC coach Becky Murphy. "It was a great match to get us ready for districts next week."

Leading the Panthers were Jessica Fenner with 11 kills and three aces; Megan Heiser with 41 digs; and Karina Pierce and Brooke Bartlett with 47 assists apiece.

SSC (13-16-3, 1-9 NEMC) next plays Wednesday, Nov. 4 against Gladwin or Harrison in a district semifinal contest, hosted by the Panthers.

John Glenn improved to 24-8-1 (8-2).
