FRANKENMUTH - Sep. 26, 2009 - Standish-Sterling split two of three matches at the Frankenmuth Invitational on Saturday before falling in the first elimination round after pool play.

The Panthers lost to Andover 16-25, 8-25, split with Frankenmuth 15-25, 25-22, split with Carlson 23-25, 25-16 and lost in a rematch with Andover 13-25, 14-25.

SSC coach Becky Murphy said the Panthers played well, breaking in new setter Kaylee Foote after Brooke Bartlett was injured earlier in the week.

"We brought Kaylee up from the JV team to set with us with Karina Pierce," Murphy said. "Kaylee did a very good job once she settled in and will be a good addition to the varsity team."

Foote had 89 assists on the day. Chelsea Szostak was 19-of-21 from the service line with four aces, Megan Heiser had 24 digs, Christina Proulx had seven kills and Pierce had 20 assists for SSC (6-11-2).
