WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Aug. 26, 2009 - For openers, it wasn't an ideal night for Whittemore-Prescott's volleyball team. But for Pinconning, Wednesday's 25-14, 25-20, 25-14 sweep of the Cardinals served as an ideal bounce-back game after a rough season-opening tournament the previous Saturday.

"We played far better than we did Saturday," said Pinny coach Brandon Little. "Just as an example, we had 26 aces and 32 (service) errors at the tournament. Today was a lot more like we wanted."

The Spartans had 18 aces to 12 errors against W-P and were able to set the table for outside hitters Emme Duranczyk and Chelsea Adcock, who responded with a total of 19 kills.

W-P threw a scare into the Spartans in the middle game, charging back from a 20-10 deficit to pull within 21-19. A pair of kills by Adcock and Duranczyk put the Spartans back in control at 24-20 before finishing the game off with an ace.

"Numerous serving errors and lack of communication on defense were a major factor." said W-P coach Helen Loomis. "The girls have great potential and showed it in Game 2. We need to get used to playing together and being more aggressive."

Kelsey Beck had 14 digs, Adcock added 10 aces and Chelsea Gruszysnki had 21 assists to lead Pinny (2-3, 1-0 NEMC).

Chelsea Jasman had five kills and nine digs; Jordan Maxwell had 10 assists; and Ali Bronson tallied eight points and three aces to lead W-P (0-1, 0-1).
