OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Oct. 7, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights kept pace with league leading Tawas Area with a four-game NEMC victory over Standish-Sterling on Wednesday, 25-17, 22-25, 25-13, 25-21.
"We are doing a better job receiving the ball and getting it up to our setters," said Ogemaw coach Diane Gillette. "Our serving continues to improve along with our communication. A couple of times throughout the night we play scattered but were quick to focus and bring it together."
"We played well, but started off to slow during the games we lost," said SSC coach Becky Murphy, whose team played without injured starters Brooke Bartlett, Kierstin Sanch and Kelsey Prohaska. "Our middle hitters (Christina Proulx and Jessica Fenner) did a good job defensively while our back row (Megan Heiser, Emily Meschke and Chelsea Szostak) took charge in the back court."
Annie Sheltrown had five aces, Andrea Gillette had 13 assists and 19 digs and Angela Carollo had 16 kills to lead the Falcons (8-12-5, 5-2 NEMC).
Jessica Fenner had 12 kills and five blocks, Megan Heiser had 38 digs and Kaylee Foote had 55 assists to pace the Panthers (7-13-2, 0-7).
