LINCOLN - Aug. 25, 2009 - Alcona defeated Arenac Eastern 25-12, 25-18, 24-26, 25-16 in the volleyball season opener for both teams on Tuesday.

"With a young team we had a very exciting first match," said AE coach Hannah Neil. "Though we did not win the match, their defense was more than I could ever ask from a young team. They looked like they have been playing volleyball together for awhile."

Leading the Eagles (0-1) were Erin Ecker with 21 assists, three aces and four kills; Tiffany Miracle with 12 assists and 3 aces; heather Norton with 12 assists and Kaylee Wilson and Maddie Forshee with two digs apiece.

Arenac Eastern hosts Owen-Gage in its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
