ROGERS CITY - Nov. 4, 2009 - Whittemore-Prescott got off to a strong start in district tournament play Wednesday, defeating Indian River Inland Lakes 25-5, 25-23, 25-17 to earn a berth in Friday's district championship contest.

W-P coach Helen Loomis said the Cardinals used strong serving to propel them to their first-game blowout. The Cards didn't make single service error in the 25-5 win.

"They continued to play well the next two games to take the match in three straight," she said. "We will, however, have to pick our play up a notch to take the district championship."

Chelsea Jasman had seven kills, Kayla Camp had 16 digs, Jordan Maxwell had 18 aces and Camp and Jasman each had three aces to lead W-P (17-11-1), who play again at Rogers City for the district title Friday, Nov. 6.
