OSCODA - Sep. 11, 2009 - Whittemore-Prescott put an emphatic end to Oscoda's three-game win streak Friday, taking a 38-0 halftime lead and rolling to a 44-16 victory on the Owls' home field.

Chris Downes rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries to account for nearly two-thirds of W-P's offensive output. His 99-yard touchdown run on 3rd-and-28 midway through the second quarter proved to be the back-breaker, denying the Owls a chance to get back in the game and giving W-P a 26-0 lead.

"My thought was to just give us a little breathing room to punt," said W-P coach Kevin Frederick. "Our offensive line made some nice blocks and Chris did the rest."

Downes sandwiched the 99-yarder with touchdown runs of 15 and 31 yards, all in a six-minute span of the second quarter.

The Cards (3-0) opened the scoring with a 14-yard pass from Dylan DeBoever to Adam Rumbold. DeBoever added a 1-yard run in the second quarter, and Kevin Dupuis had a 53-yard scoring run in the final minute of the first half.

Oscoda (2-1) got touchdown passes of 28 and 29 yards in the second half from Kieran Clarke to Ian Perkins. Greg Lomason had a 3-yard run for the Cards in the fourth quarter.

DeBoever finished 3-of-4 passing for 68 yards, with Dupuis making two catches for 54 yards.
