OSCODA - Oct. 9, 2009 - Oscoda has taken several steps forward in the rebuilding of its football program, while Tawas Area has suffered through a season of mishap, injury, and a gauntlet run through the North East Michigan Conference that had the Braves physically overmatched most nights.
But Friday night was the Braves' night almost from the opening kickoff.
Tyler Samuels scored on a 39-yard run on Tawas Area's first play from scrimmage and the Braves went on to a 34-0 defeat of their archrivals. It was the fourth straight win for the Braves in the series, but still the closest margin of victory since Oscoda's 40-14 win over Tawas in 2005.
Tawas added a 24-yard Jesse Siwek touchdown run in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead.
The Braves put the game away in the third quarter as Matt Compau added a 20-yar scoring run, Samuels scored on a 41-yard reception from Nick Schirmer and Siwek added his second touchdown of the night.
Compau led the Braves (3-4) with 120 rushing yards on 17 carries. Samuels added 77 yards on seven carries and Siwek had 37 yards on five carries. Schirmer was 1-of-2 passing.
Tim Schmidt had six solo tackles, five assists and an interception for the Tawas defense, with Josh Hunke adding seven solo tackles and two assists.
Tawas hosts Caro (3-4) on Oct. 9, while Oscoda (3-4) hosts Alcona (3-4). |
