JOHN GLENN - Sep. 18, 2009 - Pinconning figured to be a tough "out" for anyone taking the field against the Spartans this year.
But after several rough seasons, few figured the Spartans would be able to hold John Glenn without a touchdown on the Bobcats' home field.
Pinny needed every last bit of that defense on Friday, holding off Glenn 7-3 for the program's first win over Glenn since 2003 and its biggest victory in almost as long.
The Spartans got a short touchdown pass from Casey Pashak to Lucas Foco in the first quarter, then held on for dear life as the Bobcats tried time after time to answer. Pinny was able to hold Glenn to a Brandon Flues field goal late in the second quarter, and neither team scored in the second half.
The victory keeps Pinny (3-1, 2-0 NEMC) tied with Ogemaw Heights (3-1, 2-0) atop the North East Michigan Conference. The two teams meet in two weeks. Ogemaw, though, first has to face a desperate Glenn (1-3, 0-1) team, which played well in two tough losses to quality opponents in Pontiac and Muskegon Heights but must now win its final five games to avoid missing the playoff altogether.
Pinny plays at 4-0 Whittemore-Prescott, which is not an NEMC squad in football, on Friday, Sep. 25. |
