Ogemaw Heights 1, Cheboygan 0

OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Oct. 23, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights picked up its eighth win of the season without setting foot on the field Friday as Cheboygan was forced to forfeit all of its weekend sports activities due to a flu-related school district shut-down.

The Falcons (8-1) now await results of the remainder of Friday's games and Sunday's Michigan High School Athletic Association selection show to find out who they'll play in the first round of the playoffs next week.

"Neither team wanted this," said Ogemaw coach Andrew Pratley. "But it is out of our control. We're 8-1 and we will wait to see Sunday what next week brings."

Cheboygan is one of a number of school districts statewide that shut their doors this week because of high absenteeism due to the flu. The Chiefs also had to forfeit their district semifinal soccer game against defending state champion Petoskey, ending their season. Cheboygan had eliminated Ogemaw's soccer team from district tournament play on Tuesday.

Cheboygan's football squad (6-3) qualified for the playoffs with last week's win over Traverse City Central. One of many playoff scenarios could see the Falcons hosting Cheboygan in next week's opening-round playoff.
