OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Oct. 16, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights earned its seventh victory of the season Friday, standing up to an early Gaylord challenge to defeat the Blue Devils 27-6.

The Falcons' four scoring plays averaged 64 yards apiece. Kyle Bellor, who seems to have taken it upon himself to be Ogemaw Heights' big-play specialist, was involved in three of those, including the momentum shifter late in the first quarter.

Gaylord briefly tied the game at 6-6 on a 24-yard pass from Austin Sankowiak to Trent Donker with 18 seconds left in the first quarter.

The deadlock didn't last long. Bellor took the ensuing kickoff 88 yards for the go-ahead touchdown to swing the momentum back Ogemaw's way. Quarterback John Hughes connected with Bellor for a 76-yard touchdown in the third quarter and a 25-yard scoring strike in the fourth.

Hughes himself scored on a 67-yard run in the first quarter to give Ogemaw a 6-0 lead.

Bellor's two catches for 101 yards. For the season he has 12 catches for 510 yards, or more than 42 yards per catch, as well as 10 kickoff returns for 429 yards. Including his seven punt returns, Bellor is averaging more than 35 yards every time he touches the ball.

Hughes led the Falcons with 146 rushing yards on 15 attempts and had 134 yards on 3-of-7 passing, including a 33-yard completion to Jarritt Orlando.

Tyler Brindley was in on 12 tackles, with Curtis Cameron adding nine. Anthony Zettel, John Forney and Earl Bennett each had sacks.

Ogemaw (7-1) travels to Cheboygan (6-2) for a final pre-playoff tune-up. The Falcons have won three of the five meetings over the past four seasons, with the Chiefs taking the last two.

Both suffered losses to Petoskey on this season, and both played overtime games against Standish-Sterling. Ogemaw won their contest with the Panthers 16-13 while Cheboygan lost 41-35 in double overtime.
