OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Oct. 2, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights tuned up for next week's showdown with Pinconning by rolling to a 42-6 homecoming victory over North Branch.
The Broncos came in with a 4-1 record, identical to Ogemaw. But the Falcons quickly put the game out of reach, scoring the final 30 points of the first half as they took a 36-6 lead at the break.
"We played very well," said Ogemaw coach Andrew Pratley. "Any time you score 36 points in a half you are doing something right.
"Our defense continues to play well. It was a great performance on homecoming, with all that comes with that. It was nice to be able to get everyone in the game."
John Hughes accounted for four total touchdowns, running the ball in from one and two yards out in each of the first two quarters, and hitting Jarritt Orlando for scoring strikes of 22 yards to open the game and 56 yards early in the second quarter.
Tyler Brindley had a 3-yard run to end the first half, and Jason Immel scored the only points of the second half on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Hughes rushed for 136 yards on 13 carries and was 5-of-8 passing for 202 yards.
Brindley added 61 yards on nine carries and Sheldon Roberto ran for 47 yards on eight attempts.
Orlando had eight tackles on defense to go with an interception, while Curtis Cameron and Brindley added six tackles apiece.
"Curtis had stepped in due to an injury," Pratley said. "He played extremely well for us."
The Falcons (5-1) host Pinconning (5-1) on Friday in what amounts to the North East Michigan Conference championship game. Both teams are 3-0 in league play heading in to the final weekend of conference matchups.
"They are on a roll," said Pratley of the Spartans. "They have played very well the past four weeks. They do a great job of mixing the run with the pass and have several big-play players that we have to keep our eyes on.
"They have also played very good defensively during that stretch. We are going to have to play very well on Friday." |
