TAWAS AREA - Sep. 18, 2009 - Ogemaw Heights' football team crashed Tawas Area's homecoming party Friday night, rushing for more than 500 yards and getting seven players into the scoring act in a 53-12 victory over the Braves.
The Falcons forced six turnovers, had three rushers surpass the 100-yard mark and didn't punt once.
Tawas actually led for about four minutes of the first quarter, picking up a Falcon fumble and racing 85 yards for the opening score.
But 6-0 was as large as the Braves' lead got. Alex Jennings returned the favor with a defensive touchdown of his own, returning an interception 15 yards for a touchdown. Jarritt Orlando's PAT gave the Falcons a 7-6 lead that they never gave up.
Sheldon Roberto's 27-yard run with 2:42 left in the half made it 14-6, and after another Tawas turnover, Tyler Brindley's 10-yard run opened up a 20-6 halftime lead.
Kyle Bellor returned the second half kickoff 85 yards, and it continued to get worse for Tawas. Charlie Murdock added a 4-yard run and John Hughes added a 5-yard run before the third quarter was over.
Roberto and Donovan Garza had scoring runs of 60 and 49 yards, respectively, in the fourth quarter, while the Braves' Tyler Samuels had a 16-yard run to get Tawas back on the board.
Roberto led the Falcon triumvirate that broke the century mark with 115 rushing yards on six carries. Greg Awrey added 114 yards on eight carries and Hughes had 112 yards on 16 carries, with Brindley adding 77 yards on eight carries. The Falcons didn't complete a pass in the game.
Samuels led Tawas with 96 yards on eight carries. Jesse Siwek was 3-of-9 for 96 yards passing and Nick Schirmer was 4-of-10 for 34 yards.
Lance Griffus was in on seven total tackles and had a fumble recovery; Jimmy Stalsburg had six tackles and two interceptions; and Orlando and Brindley each added six tackles to lead the Falcon defense.
Stephen Baker had nine tackles, Matt Compau added eight and Remington Wright had seven.
The Falcons (3-1, 2-0 NEMC) host John Glenn (1-3, 0-1) on Friday, Sep. 25, while Tawas (2-2, 0-2) is home against Standish-Sterling (2-2, 1-1). |
