HILLMAN - Oct. 23, 2009 - The Hillman Tigers weren't in a sharing mood Friday.

The Tigers, who already had clinched at least a tie for the North Star League title, defeated Hale 37-0 to claim the championship plaque for themselves. Hale could have forced a three-way tie with the Tigers and Mio AuSable with a win. But after a slow start by both squads, the Tigers pulled out to a 22-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

Devon Shumaker scored on runs of six, 52 and 35 yards and returned a free kick 66 yards after a Hale safety in the third quarter.

Lance Safford also had a three-yard run.

The Tigers' defense never let Hale's running game get untracked, holding the Eagles (3-6, 3-2 NSL) to just 41 yards on 30 carries.

Tanner Shellenbarger completed 5-of-11 passes for 82 yards, with Christian Moody making four catches for 70 yards.

Ben Stoll had 10 tackles, with Cadwell and Devin Smith adding six apiece.

Shumaker finished with 145 yards on 12 carries and Safford had 87 yards on 20 carries to lead Hillman (7-2, 5-0).
