HALE - Oct. 9, 2009 - Lost opportunities and injuries proved to be too much for Hale to overcome Friday as Dryden handed the Eagles a 28-6 loss in a rainy homecoming night.
Trailing 12-0 in the first quarter, Hale got back in the game with an 8-yard Christian Moody touchdown run.
But an offsides penalty on a Dryden punt gave the Yellowjackets the chance to score another touchdown right before the half, and the Eagles had Christian Mudry's kickoff return for a touchdown to open the third quarter erased by another flag.
"We are at the point in the season where we are suffering from attrition and having to move people into new spots," said Hale coach Bill Lake. "They are playing very well but we do make mental mistakes than we have been."
Dryden capped the scoring with a long touchdown drive on its first possession of the second half. Lake said Hale continued to have success moving the ball but was unable to finish off its drives.
"One thing that every coach comments on after the game is how hard our boys hit and play right up to the end," Lake said.
Moody finished with 87 rushing yards on 16 carries, with Casey Shuman adding 51 yards on eight carries.
Devin Smith had 12 tackles, Mudry had nine and Evan Caverly, Tyler Braun and Eddy Cadwell each had six.
The Eagles (3-4) are still unbeaten in North Star League play but face a big test Friday at Mio (5-2), which ripped AuGres-Sims 60-6 on Friday.
"We are still undefeated in the North Star League," Lake said. "We feel with our non-league schedule if we can win out we can still make the playoffs at 5-4 with a league championship." |
