MIO AuSABLE - Oct. 9, 2009 - Mio AuSable's football team had its way with AuGres-Sims on Friday, ripping the Wolverines for 54 points in the game's first 18:30 and rolling to a 60-6 victory.
The loss was the worst for the Wolverines since a 67-12 playoff defeat at Frankfort in 1998.
The Thunderbolts unleashed their dominating rushing attack for 479 yards, averaging 10 yards per carry for the game.
Mio got touchdown runs of two and four yards from Zac Bills in the first four minutes and converted both 2-point conversions for a 16-0 lead.
Quarterback Grant Price added scoring runs of 45 and 20 yards in the opening period and Neil Hanson added a 50-yard touchdown scamper. Bills converted 2-pointers in the final two scores of the quarter for a 38-0 lead.
K.C. Fox scored on a 5-yard run and Zac Pillars added a 30-yarder in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
With a 54-point lead, Mio had a running clock to work with for the entire second half and chewed up the whole third quarter on one possession. Aaron Smith capped the 12:05 drive with a 4-yard run on the first play of the four quarter.
Dakota Thomas scored late in the game for AuGres-Sims.
The victory kept Mio (5-2, 3-1 North Star League) within one game of league-leading Hillman and Hale. The Thunderbolts host Hale (3-4, 3-0) in their final league contest of the season Friday, Oct. 16.
AuGres-Sims (2-5, 0-4) hosts county rival Arenac Eastern, also on Oct. 16. |
