ATLANTA - Sep. 25, 2009 - AuGres-Sims' mistakes left the door open for Atlanta on Friday, and the Huskies were only too happy to barge through it and claim a 38-21 North Star League victory over the Wolverines.
AGS committed 10 penalties, one of which erased a touchdown and another that negated another big play and botched a punt that gave Atlanta the ball at the Wolverine 15.
AGS used big plays to take an early lead. Connor Pendred had a 34-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and Travis Byard added a 55-yard run in the second as the Wolverines built a 13-6 advantage.
But Atlanta, behind sophomore backup quarterback Justin Klein, scored three straight touchdowns to build a 30-14 lead. Klein himself scored on runs of 38 and 1-yard, and threw a 16-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter that put the game away.
Byard finished with 158 yards rushing on 14 carries, and Pendred added 64 yards on 13 carries for AGS, which dropped to 2-3 (0-2 NSL). Byard was 4-of-12 passing for 20 yards.
Kyle Shanks led the defense with 11 tackles, with Tomas Smith adding nine tackles.
Atlanta improved to 1-4 (1-2).
