Outlook: Oscoda will bring to the mat one of the deeper and more experienced squads in the NEMC. The Owls' numbers are up overall, with 11 wrestlers returning from last season.
"For the first time in a number of years we are going to have more than one person in most of the weight classes," said Oscoda coach Tony Lopez. "The starters in most of our weight classes have at least three years of wrestling experience and one year of varsity experience."
Leading the way will be six returning seniors. Heavyweight Monte Fouchey earned a sixth-place finish at the state finals, as well as the NEMC title in his weight class. Justin Andrick (189) was an NEMC runner-up and qualified for regionals. Todd Kerentoff (215) finished third in the NEMC, as did Tim Ruby (171) for the third time. Ruby Also was a regional qualifier last year. Danny Robert (145) and Kyle Myers (119) both have two years of varsity wrestling under their belts.
"Every year our goal is to be competitive, finish in the top three in the NEMC and wrestle in the team district final," Lopez said.
The Owls seem well-positioned to meet or exceed most of those goals. |
